As part of our regional carbon credit capacity-building journey, the Tanzania Rural Development Forum (TRDF) participated in an inspiring field visit to the Kasigau REDD+ Project by Wildlife Works—a pioneering, community-led initiative that protects over 200,000 hectares of forest in Kenya.
On the ground, we witnessed what justice in carbon finance truly looks like:
• Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC)
• Equitable benefit-sharing
• Meaningful employment opportunities for local communities
The people of Kasigau reminded us that when carbon finance is fair, transparent, and rooted in community ownership, it has the power to revive ecosystems and uplift generations.
As TRDF, we return to Tanzania with a bold, people-centered vision to:
• Mobilize climate finance for regenerative agriculture, conservation, and carbon rights
• Strengthen local governments and communities in project design and negotiation
• Ensure carbon projects deliver both livelihood and environmental co-benefits
