TRDF had the honor to participate in a high-level meeting convened by the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) on July 22, 2025, to validate a national report assessing the impact of the USAID grant suspension on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Tanzania.
Key Findings:
• Over 85% of CSOs in Tanzania rely heavily on foreign aid, primarily from USAID
• Some organizations reported budget cuts of up to 90%, leading to office closures, staff layoffs, and program shutdowns
• Essential services to HIV patients, adolescent girls, and farmers were severely disrupted
• Financial institutions experienced loan defaults directly linked to halted CSO programs
This engagement marks a crucial step in informing policy advocacy and shaping future dialogue between donors, CSOs, and the government.
