TRDF Highlights Community-Led Economic Empowerment in Ihanja Village, Singida

Through its member organization SMCCT, the Tanzania Rural Development Forum (TRDF) is showcasing practical, community-driven initiatives that economically empower women and youth in rural Tanzania.

In Ihanja Village, Ihanja Ward, Ikungi District – Singida Region, women and young people are actively engaged in income-generating activities, including beekeeping, rice farming, and sunflower cultivation. These initiatives aim to strengthen household incomes while promoting self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods.

Beyond economic benefits, the projects contribute to:
• Reducing household dependency and poverty
• Preventing gender-based violence through economic empowerment
• Promoting environmental conservation and sustainable use of natural resources

Notably, these initiatives are being implemented without external funding, demonstrating the strength, commitment, and resilience of local communities in driving their own sustainable development.

TRDF continues to support and amplify such grassroots efforts by its members, recognizing community-led action as a key foundation for inclusive and lasting rural development in Tanzania.
